Meeting wrap-up January 6th, 2003

Game Critique and Analysis

Pictorial

About 40 people attended the January meeting which took place on the 5th floor of the Art Institute.

After brief introductions of everyone, David Thomas led a discussion about Game Critique and Analysis.

Our next meeting will be on Monday February 3rd 7:00PM at the Art Institute, David will finish the topic of Game Critique and Analysis which was started at our January meeting.

More about the topic

This semester David will be teaching a course at the University of Colorado at Denver, about critical analysis of video games. His goal with the course is to introduce to people a common way of looking at and critiquing video games.

One of the things David feels is important to being able to seriously critique video games is a common language and definitions for different elements of a video game. At this meeting we covered several of these proposed terms and debated their importance in the critique of games.

For anyone interested in the topic, David has provided an early proposed syllabus for the course. You can also find more information on David's website: buzzcut.com, and you can attend our February 2003 meeting where we revisit this topic.
